Housing Board flats in Tengah are now completed, and comprise almost 40% of the total 23,000 flats that have been available in the new town.
Garden Garden, which is the second of the five Tengah housing districts that are being constructed has also seen residents move into their new residences. Plantation is the first of the five housing districts that will be constructed in Tengah.
Keys for 2,936 Garden units, or 90 percent of the booked 3,306 units have been retrieved.
On November 15, 7,921 households had received their keys to their apartments in eight Build-to Order (BTO) projects within the Plantation and Garden district.
Tengah residents will be given keys to the Plantation District by the end of August 2023.
The 700ha area that lies to the west, described as an ecological “forest town” without cars it is the first HDB town to be developed over the course of more than 20 years.
Tengah is scheduled to be split into five districts, and will provide 42,000 houses once finished.
Tengah’s Garden district will be home to the residents with 6,500 houses once it is finished. The area of 80ha comprises a total area of 80 acres.
In November, a section of the 900m-long green connector known as Garden Farmway was inaugurated. It connects residents to recreation facilities such as playgrounds, allotment gardens and fitness centers.
HDB’s latest update on the town stated that another stretch of the town will be completed by the beginning of the quarter of 2025.
Garden Vines @ Tengah project will begin its first quarter of operation in 2025. It will have the supermarket and restaurant for residents in the Garden district. A bakery as well as dental and medical clinics will be provided.
The Plantation Farmway is expected to be completed within the Plantation District that is adjacent to the town by 2024. It will connect four BTO projects to the first neighbourhood centre.
In the next few months the time, a community center will be in place.
HDB announced that 40 new stores and eateries have been opened within the Plantation Plaza neighborhood centre. This includes a Swensen’s restaurant, DIY Hub hardware store and Teo Heng Family KTV Studio.
In June, the very first company to be opened was the Giant grocery store. A foodcourt called Koufu was followed by the McDonald’s restaurant.
In September and August two preschools within the Plantation Grange BTO project as well as the Plantation Acres BTO project were opened. In 2025, two additional preschools will be established within the Plantation district.
HDB has stated that it will collaborate in conjunction with the Early Childhood Development Agency in the process of opening pre-schools gradually in each BTO project within the Garden district.
Four bus services are accessible for residents. City Direct’s bus service 674 that connects Tengah residents to the Central Business District, began in operation on the 25th of November. Three other bus services 992, 870 871 and 870 871 will take residents to Bukit batok as well as Jurong East.
Tengah Town is expected to grow rapidly as more amenities and infrastructure in and surrounding Tengah are being planned to help residents and give them the same conveniences like the other HDB towns.
